Inclusive TVET for a Green and Digital Future” and the launch of the 2023 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report for Southeast Asia takes Centre Stage at SEAMEO VOCTECH’s Sharing Session 

Brunei Darussalam, 23 October 2024 – SEAMEO VOCTECH today hosted the launch of the 2023 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report for Southeast Asia, in conjunction with a Sharing Session on Inclusive TVET for a Green and Digital Future, as part of its 35th Governing Board Meeting.

The event was officiated by Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) of the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam. 

 The GEM Report, produced by UNESCO in collaboration with SEAMEO, titled “Technology in Education: A Tool on Whose Terms?”, examines how technology is utilised in education across 11 Southeast Asian countries, including Brunei Darussalam. It calls on governments to ensure technology in education is appropriate, equitable, and scalable, focusing on social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

The Sharing Session followed the launch, which explored how TVET systems can integrate sustainability and inclusivity to meet the demands of rapidly evolving industries. Contributions from Governing Board Members and industry experts from GIZ RECOTWIN, Labtech International, CAITO, and NISAI provided valuable insights on curriculum development, teacher training, and aligning TVET with the shifting needs of modern industries.

The session emphasised the importance of preparing the workforce with future-ready skills to support sustainable economic growth and social inclusivity. The event also facilitated networking and collaboration opportunities to develop professional skills across Southeast Asia.

In addition to these enriching dialogues, the event provided opportunities for networking and potential future collaborations, focusing on professional skills development across Southeast Asia.

The 35^th SEAMEO VOCTECH Governing Board Meeting and Sharing Session on “Inclusive TVET for a Green and Digital Future” will be followed by a work-life balance activity the next day, featuring a sightseeing tour around Bandar Seri Begawan and an educational visit to the School of Aviation and Hospitality at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE). Closing off with a bowling tournament, offering delegates the opportunity to engage in networking in a more informal, enjoyable setting, fostering camaraderie and promoting work-life balance among participants.
