Bandar Seri Begawan, 14 February 2026 – The SEAMEO VOCTECH Regional Centre has successfully concluded its Hybrid Regional Training Programme on “Driving Sustainability and Developing Green Strategies for TVET Management” culminating in a certification ceremony officiated by Mr. Guo Weimin, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in Brunei Darussalam. A total of 18 TVET senior management personnel representing all 11 SEAMEO member countries received their Certificates of Completion to the training programme.
Delivered through an online phase from 27-29 January 2026 and an onsite component at the Centre from 9-14 February 2026, the programme was designed to strengthen the capacity of the TVET workforce to support global priorities on sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.
As industries move rapidly toward greener practices, TVET leaders are required to integrate sustainability into their institutions’ strategies, curricula, and operations. To address these evolving demands, SEAMEO VOCTECH highlighted the importance of understanding sustainability challenges, policy frameworks, green skills development, and industry collaboration to align TVET with the needs of the green economy.
Facilitated by Dr. Jaya Priah Kasinathan, SEAMEO VOCTECH TVET Specialist (Leadership and Management), and special co-facilitation by Green TVET expert, Dr Margarita Pavlova, Visiting Professor from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Malaysia, the eight‑day programme equipped participants through workshops, case studies, and strategic planning sessions with the knowledge and tools to drive sustainability-focused reforms within their institutions.
A major highlight of the programme was the regional forum titled “From Vision to Impact: Education, Industry and Community Partnerships for a Green Transition and Sustainable Future” conducted as part of the training agenda. The session featured local experts including Ms. Sarinah Binti Ziziumiza (Head, Centre of Technology Enhancement Learning, IBTE), Ms. Nurul Fathiah Bazilah Binti Haji Ibrahim (Education Officer, STEP Centre), Mr. Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Lim (Social Investment Lead, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd), and Ms. Khairunnisa Ash’ari (Co-Founder/Community Engagement Director, Green Brunei). The forum offered in-depth discussions on Brunei’s sustainability landscape from regulatory frameworks and industry expectations to green skills development and community-driven environmental initiatives.
Participants also visited Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Abu Bakar for a knowledge‑sharing engagement, where they gained valuable insights into the school’s initiatives on green transitions and the integration of sustainability within its teaching and learning practices. This was complemented by a cultural immersion tour, providing participants with the opportunity to experience Brunei’s rich heritage while fostering meaningful cross‑cultural exchange.
The programme concluded with a formal Closing Ceremony at SEAMEO VOCTECH, officiated by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Guo Weimin, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in Brunei Darussalam. His presence underscored the significance of regional collaboration in advancing sustainability within TVET. During the ceremony, certificates were presented to all participants in the presence of the Centre’s management and training team, marking the successful completion of the regional initiative.
