Singapore, 05 July 2024 – 20 TVET instructors from 10 SEAMEO-member countries completed a two-week TVET training in robotics and smart systems. The countries included Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Viet Nam. The course was part of the Technical Skills Upgrading Programme (TSUP) for TVET teachers in Southeast Asia. The Institute of Technical Education, Education Services (ITEES) and SEAMEO VOCTECH hosted the program from 24 June to 5 July 2024.

Practical and Hands-On Learning

The TVET training covered the fundamentals of robotics, smart systems, and industrial and collaborative robotics programming. It emphasized practical and hands-on learning. The course was designed to help participants apply their new knowledge to their teaching practices.

Commendation from SEAMEO VOCTECH Director

During the closing ceremony, the Centre Director of SEAMEO VOCTECH, Mr. Haji Norjemee bin Jenek, praised Singapore’s advancements in tech-based training. He acknowledged the nation’s efforts to share this knowledge with the region.

“Singapore, being the forerunner in tech-based training in the region, we greatly appreciate the nation’s effort to help and assist other ASEAN member states to also uplift and improve their technical prowess. This is a critical need for us in TVET, where we must align our curriculum to the needs of the industry, especially in IR 4.0 and smart systems,” Mr. Haji Norjemee remarked.

Post-Training Sharing Workshops

Participants will also enhance their technical skills through one-week Post-Training Sharing Workshops (PSWS). Instructors and trainers will share their TSUP learnings in their home countries. SEAMEO VOCTECH will supervise these workshops to benefit those who did not attend the Singapore training.

Expanding Knowledge Sharing

The TSUP has produced over 271 Master Trainers. These trainers have shared their expertise with more than 1,767 participants throughout the region. The recent training marked the third round of this collaboration. It now benefits not only teachers and trainers but also school leaders, managers, and TVET specialists in Industry 4.0.

Closing Ceremony Highlights

The closing and certificate presentation ceremony took place at ITE Central, Singapore on 5 July 2024. It was attended by Mr. Lim Boon Tiong, Chief Operating Officer of ITEES, and Ms. Tan Shin Gee, Senior Director of Temasek Foundation, Singapore.
